Last month I spent an afternoon exploring the raised walkways and pillared underpasses of the enclosed concrete paradise that is The Barbican. For years I walked around the edge or under the Barbican without acknowledging above my head a car free city quarter filled with beautiful gardens, lakes and fountains around two huge courtyards containing homes, schools and an art centre. This was utopian Brutalist architecture on a colossal scale. I spent the first hour wandering around the concrete landscape eyes up and eventually set up my tripod and began shooting.
